Under normal circumstances, yes, such a slot would weaken the post, but not with the Clipex™ system fencing post. We have completely re-engineered the cross-sectional profile to compensate. However, we do stipulate that to maintain maximum strength, you insert the post so that the bottom slot is set approximately 50mm above the ground.  The clip was engineered so that the post will bend before the wire comes out. We have spent nearly a year constantly modifying the design of the clip so that the wire is held without compromised security, whilst still allowing you to pull the wire out easily when required.
